March is the most exciting time of year for sports fans. Baseball teams report for spring training and the playoff races in the NBA and NHL start to heat up.
But nothing steals the media’s attention more than the annual NCAA basketball tournament. And this year, fans will have a chance to see some great athletes in person in the Chicago area.
On March 17 and 19, DePaul University will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Women’s Tournament at the AllState Arena.
DePaul’s women’s team has been among the better programs in the country over the last decade under the guidance of Doug Bruno who is in his 22nd season as the head coach. Junior guard Anna Martin was one of two unanimous first-team All-Big East Conference performers this season, and the Lady Blue Demons are expected to be in the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced.
The brackets for the 2012 Women’s Championship tournament, including the teams that will play in the Chicago regional, will be announced in a live television event at 6 PM CT on March 12 (seen on ESPN).
