Top Five Kid-Friendly Michigan Avenue Shops

Hitting the Magnificent Mile for some shopping? Here are my top five picks for fun and kid-friendly shops the best street for shopping in Chicago, North Michigan Avenue:

Kooky Kidstuff
The Shops at Northbridge

Ten locally-based designers teamed up to bring you the oustanding selection of unique kid’s clothing, toys and books at this hip kid’s boutique. You’ll find everything from rocker T-shirts to elegant party dresses. At the adjacent in-store salon, treat your little girl to a princess updo or a mini mani-pedi.

The Shops at Northbridge
This delightful store features all things Hello Kitty – from lunchboxes to wristwatches. Colorful and sweet, you’re bound to fall in love with the band of Sanrio characters. Small, affordable items make perfect birthday party favors: you’ll find a wide range of sticker packs, candies, figurines, pens, pencils, and erasers for under $2.

The LEGO Store
Water Tower Place

My 10-year-old son could spend a day tinkering around in this store. The huge selection of all things LEGO is made even more special with huge, rotating LEGO creations, including a massive Darth Vadar. The Pick-a-Brick wall features LEGO pieces in a rainbow of colors and shapes, available for purchase in bulk. Little LEGO lovers will enjoy testing out sets at the kid-level building tables brimming with DUPLO elements.

American Girl Place
Water Tower Place
American Girl Place is a doll paradise: You’ll find all of the American Girl dolls and all of their coveted books and accessories here, as well as a doll hair salon and a cafe featuring live entertainment and brunch, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea and parties. Be sure to pose for a picture at the Photo Studio, and take home a souvenir issue of American Girl magazine with your girl’s face on the cover.

Marbles: The Brain Store
Water Tower Place
This charming store features a fantastic selection of more than 200 brain-boosting games. Why not pick out a game or two and make a promise to celebrate Family Game Night once per week? On site “Brain Coaches” will help you find the right game for your brain type.

Garrett Popcorn Shop
A trip to the Mag Mile – no matter the season – warrants a pit stop at the Garrett Popcorn Shop. Fuel up with freshly popped popcorn, coated with salty sweet caramel, cheddar cheese, or just plain old butter. Grab a small bag for each kid or share a huge one. I’m a purist, and I adore the addictive caramel corn, but many of my fellow Chicagoans swear by the famouse Chicago Mix of caramel and cheddar.
