In this second edition of a two-part series, we’re looking ahead to the coming women’s basketball seasons all over the Chicago area. We looked at the upcoming men’s basketball seasons last week.
No NBA? No problem! The college basketball season is about to get going, and there are some exciting – and nationally ranked – women’s teams at local universities ready to start a strong campaign.
On Friday, Nov. 11, the nationally ranked DePaul Blue Demons will begin their 2011-12 season hosting the Maggie Dixon Classic at the McGrath-Phillips Arena. Ranked 19th in the polls to begin the new year, DePaul will host St. Mary’s on Friday night of the four-team tournament. The championship game will be Saturday.
After a trip to Hawaii, DePaul returns to Chicago for an early season match-up with Northwestern in Evanston on Nov. 27. For DePaul’s complete schedule and ticket information, click here.
The University of Chicago women begin the 2011-12 season ranked #2 by ESPN and USA Today in NCAA Division III. On Nov. 18-19, they’ll host the University of Chicago Tip-Off Tournament that includes Benedictine, Fontbonne and Macalester. They will also host Lake Forest (Nov. 22) and Carthage (Nov. 27) before travelling to Wheaton College on Nov. 30. For more information about tickets and a complete schedule, click here.
The Northwestern University women’s basketball team will begin their home schedule on Nov. 15 against Western Kentucky, followed by a home date against Illinois State on the 17th. After hosting DePaul on the 27th, Northwestern will be visited by North Carolina State as part of the annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge on the 30th of November. After an exhibition game against St. Xavier at home, the UIC women’s team will begin their regular season with three home games in November. Drake (Nov. 12), Southeast Missouri (Nov. 15) and Saint Louis (Nov. 18) will all visit the UIC Pavilion this month. For UIC’s schedule and ticket information, click here.
Loyola University‘s women’s team will begin their regular season home schedule with a date against Northern Illinois on Nov. 13 and will host Western Michigan on Nov. 20 before heading to Seattle for a tournament. Chicago State University starts their 2011-12 season with three home games. Loyola (Nov. 11), Northern Iowa (Nov. 14) and Rice (Nov. 18) will all visit the Jones Convocation Center before they hit the road.
