Looking ahead to the August calendar for the Chicago Cubs, there are some great opportunities to catch the North Siders against division rivals.
The Cubs were quiet at the Major League Baseball trade deadline, only making one minor deal; they dealt outfielder Kosuke Fukudome to the Cleveland Indians.
With the team still intact, the lineup will continue to feature one of the most exciting young players in the majors, Starlin Castro. Entering August, Castro is one of only 15 players in the National League with a batting average over .300, and ranks third among all NL shortstops with 188 total bases.
On the mound, Ryan Dempster and Matt Garza have been among the major league leaders with 27 and 23 strikeouts since the All-Star Break, respectively.
The Washington Nationals come to town for a three-game set (Aug. 8-10), with all three games starting at 7:05 PM.
The Cubs then take off on a road trip that takes them to Atlanta and Houston before returning to Wrigley Field for a weekend set against the St. Louis Cardinals from Aug. 19-21. Atlanta then visits Chicago for a four-game series from Aug. 22-25 to close the home schedule for the month.
