Sidetrack in Boystown Hits a High Note!

You never know where your day will lead you in Chicago. That’s one of the many things I love about this city. My afternoon began at the Cubs game with a nice cold beer and hot dog at Wrigley Field and ended at Sidetrack The Video Bar in Boystown with an appearance by Kristin Chenoweth, arguably one of the greatest modern-day theater icons.

If you’re a fan of the musical “Wicked” or in to Fox’s smash-hit, “Glee”, you have a deep respect and love for this petite, boisterous, and beautiful woman. So to stumble upon the launch of her new single, “I Want Somebody (Bitch About)” at Sidetrack was one exciting way to spend a Sunday evening in Chicago.

Not to mention, Sidetrack hosts its Show Tunes night every Sunday and Monday. So if you’re a musical-theatre nut, there’s no place like Sidetrack. Oldies but goodies from “Music Man” and “Hair” to mainstream tunes from “Moulin Rouge” and “Rent” have the crowd on their feet belting out the words, and often times, in harmony.

Ms. Chenoweth received a warm welcome as hundreds of fans sang along to her famous song “Popular” from “Wicked”. When she hit the stage to say hello to her Chicago fan base and introduce her new video, Ms. Chenoweth seemed overcome with emotion. She said, “I can just feel the love in this room!” That’s right Kristin, Chicago loves you.

If show tunes aren’t your thing, Sidetrack hosts a variety of other weekly events like retro jams, comedy videos, and high energy mixes.

New to Boystown? Chicago’s Boystown neighborhood is the heart of the city’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) community in East Lakeview. All are welcome to enjoy the eclectic mix of restaurants, shops and bars. It’s widely-popular for the Annual Gay Pride Parade in June and Halsted Street Market Days Festival in August.
